ZFM Council approves the Adjustment Budget

During a Council meeting, held on 24February 2023 and chaired by the Speaker, Councillor Stanley Peterson, the ZF Mgcawu District Municipal Council approved its Adjustment Budget for the 2022/2023 financial year. The Executive Mayor, Councillor Maryna Basson tabled the Adjustment Budget in terms of section 28(2) of the Municipal Finance Management Act, Act 56 of 2003.

In her address to the Council, the Executive Mayor emphasised the obligation of managing public funds by law bestowed upon Mayors.

The Municipal Financial Management Act, put the responsibility squarely on the Mayor’s shoulders to provide general political guidance over the fiscal and financial affairs of the municipality and take all reasonable steps to ensure that the Municipality performs its constitutional and statutory functions within the limits of the Municipality’s approved budget.

“This adjustment budget signifies one year since this Council has been in office and the responsibility we have in playing our political oversight role over the functions of the municipality. We must never forget that we are mere servants placed here to serve our communities and we must have their best interests at heart at all times,” she said.
