ZF Mgcawu District joins forces to end Gender-Based Violence and Femicide
In a powerful demonstration of collective will and community commitment, the Executive Mayor of the ZF Mgcawu District Municipality, Cllr Maryna Basson, convened a meeting of the District’s Rapid Response Team on Gender-Based Violence. This pivotal gathering brought together representatives from various organisations, stakeholders, and community leaders with one shared goal: to drive meaningful action in the fight against Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF).
Central to the meeting was a reflection on the End GBVF 100-Day Challenge, which is a focused, intensive initiative that mobilizes local action to address GBVF head-on. This structured programme is rooted in collaboration, innovation, and swift, grassroots-driven execution. It empowers frontline teams and local leaders to co-create real, lasting solutions within their communities.

The 100 Day Challenge model is supported by a Challenge Strategist and a Team Coach, ensuring that teams stay focused, supported, and guided throughout the journey. A leader is nominated by the team to help drive momentum and accountability. Weekly check-ins are held to monitor progress, share wins, and address obstacles. At the conclusion of the 100 days, a final workshop will serve as a moment of reflection, allowing the team to evaluate what worked, capture lessons learned, and identify clear next steps to sustain the momentum.
During the meeting, Executive Mayor Cllr Maryna Basson emphasized that the District Municipality must lead with compassion, urgency, and determination, noting that gender-based violence is not merely a societal issue but a fundamental human rights crisis, one that requires collective responsibility and action from all sectors of society.
