Virtual Council Meeting held on 29 June 2020

The Council of the ZF Mgcawu District Municipality held a virtual Council meeting on the 29th of June 2020. The councillors logged into the meeting virtually as per the regulations issued by the government of maintaining social distancing and adhering to the rules of gatherings during the COVID-19 period. The regulations gazetted by the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, require meetings of municipal councils be hosted through virtual platforms to enable councils to continue to execute various legislative functions.

The meetings conducted today which include the Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC), the Mayoral Committee and the Finance Viability Committee are indicative of the “New Norm” of how governance of municipal affairs will be dealt with henceforth. The Council of the ZF Mgcawu District Municipality plays an oversight role by ensuring that the budget and performance goals of the Council are properly achieved and that there are consequences for mismanagement and non-performance. Council emphasized the importance of staying safe and adhering to the safety protocols. Council is committed to ensuring that the regulations are observed and most importantly that social distancing is practiced to eliminating any possibility of spreading the virus.
