Oversight visit to Kgatelopele Local Municipality
The Executive Mayor of the ZF Mgcawu District Municipality, Cllr Maryna Basson, accompanied by the Speaker, Cllr Stanley Peterson, and the entire Mayoral Committee started their week-long visit to the Kgatelopele Local Municipality. The ZF Mgcawu District Council resolved to strengthen its oversight role and support to Municipalities in terms of the Structures Act (as amended). Local Municipalities must deliver services to their residents as prescribed by law. The District Municipality plays a central role in ensuring overall service delivery and addressing challenges experienced by Municipalities that may hinder their ability to effectively render services to communities.

The ZF Mgcawu District Municipality’s oversight visit to the Kgatelopele Local Municipality was marked by numerous inspections to assess the progress of ongoing construction projects. The delegation, led by the ZFM Executive District Mayor Councillor Maryna Basson, ZFM Speaker Stanley Peterson and the Members of the Mayoral Committee: Cllr Mgcera, Cllr Matshimo, Cllr Silo, Cllr Johnson and the Kgatelopele Mayor, Cllr Irene Williams, Ward Councillors and the Senior Management of the Kgatelopele Municipality.
The primary objective of the visit was to determine whether contractors were on track with the timelines set for project completion. The officials visited multiple construction sites and engaged with contractors and workers to evaluate the status of each project. The delegation emphasized the importance of adhering to schedules to ensure timely delivery of services to the community. It was evident that continuous monitoring and overseeing of projects must take place. Ward councillors and senior management also provided valuable insights during the visit, discussing potential challenges and solutions with the contractors. The oversight visit is part of a broader ZFM Mgcawu District Municipality initiative to enhance transparency in local governance.
