Opening of EmpowaYouth Weekend
The Acting Municipal Manager of the ZF Mgcawu District Municipality Mr. Alfred Tieties today welcomed different investors to the district during the Transport Education Training Authority TETA EmpowaYouth Summit that hundreds of young people attended. During his welcoming Mr Tieties said this Summit is a big role-player in the development of young people in the District and in achieving the goal of youth development. During his engagement with EmpowaYouth, he emphasized the importance of the youth benefiting from the summit upon which TETA promised change in the lives of young people through opportunities, funding, investments and education opportunities. Mr. Tieties said the District will hold TETA accountable for all the promises and commitments made.
During her keynote address, the Executive Mayor of the ZF Mgcawu District Municipality Cllr Maryna Basson said the program affords an opportunity for development to young people in different sectors. Cllr Basson said the program is a platform that allows young people to talk about challenges they face and how these can be addressed especially the unemployment rate. The Executive Mayor urged the youth to make use of the opportunity that has been brought to their doorstep to unlock their potential.
The Executive Manager of Corporate Services at TETA said this program covers every individual in the transport sector and gives support and funding to existing and new businesses and employers who provide training and skills development to young people. She said thousands of young people have already been assisted in different sectors in other provinces. She said they work well with stakeholders to help young people join and start their own businesses and get employment opportunities through discretionary and special grants. She encouraged young people to look for opportunities on the website of TETA and take the opportunities they have available to make them count.
Young people came out in their numbers to attend the Summit, a clear indication of their eagerness and willingness to change their circumstances through the opportunities brought to them. Different stakeholders and funders exhibited their services and opportunities at the summit where young people could get as much information as possible to apply in their field of interest.
