MUNMEC Meeting Currently Underway In Upington
The first MUNMEC for 2026, is currently underway in Upington, in the Dawid Kruiper Local Municipality hosted by MEC Bentley Vass. The MUNMEC is a strategic meeting between the MEC and Municipalities, and is attended by Executive Mayors, Mayors, Chief Whips and Municipal Managers from across the Northern Cape, as well as other sector departments and entities.
MEC Vass welcoming the attendees to the MUNMEC, expressed a need for better collaborations between all spheres of government, to address issues affecting communities throughout the Province.
‘’In February 2026, the Premier presented a 10-Point Plan for Northern Cape municipalities, outlined at the SOPA 2026. This plan aims to reverse local government decline through urgent, actionable “non-negotiables.” Focusing on service delivery, financial discipline, and infrastructure maintenance. The plan tackles leadership stability, filling vacancies, and implementing “Operation Clean Audit” to improve governance and accountability in municipalities’’ said MEC Vass. The two-day MUNMEC will end on Thursday, 23 April, and is expected to resolve on a comprehensive way-forward to ensure that every municipality in the Northern Cape, is able to render efficient services to communities.
