Media Statement: Resignation of ZFM Acting Municipal Manager

The ZF Mgcawu District Municipality can confirm that the Acting Municipal Manager of the District Municipality, Mr. Alfred Tieties has resigned from this position with immediate effect. During a Virtual Special Council Meeting held on the 7th of November 2024, having declared a quorum of the meeting, the resignation of the Acting Municipal Manager was tabled and the Council accepted the resignation of Mr Alfred Tieties.

The Council has appointed Mr. Isak De Waal, the Director of Planning and Development to act as Municipal Manager in accordance with the Local Government: Municipal Systems Act (Act No 32 of 2000) and the Local Government Regulations on the appointment and conditions of employment of senior managers of 2014 for a period of three months or until the vacant post has been filled.

Mr Isak De Waal is no stranger to the position having previously been appointed as Municipal Manager and Director of Technical Services at the Kai !Garib Local Municipality. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Municipal Governance from Rand Afrikaans University, obtained in 2002, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education from the University of South Africa, awarded in 2013. Currently, he is pursuing an Honours degree in Public Administration at the Stellenbosch University, with expected completion in 2024. Mr. De Waal brings extensive knowledge and experience in service delivery to the District Municipality. The Council of the ZF Mgcawu District Municipality wishes Mr. De Waal well with his tenure and positively anticipates what his leadership has to offer.
