Empowerment of Women-Owned Businesses in Public Procurement Project

The Presidency and different stakeholders today held the Presidential Women Empowerment workshop at the Tol Speelman Community Hall in Upington. The program was specifically targeted at women-owned enterprises. Mr. Isak De Waal, the Director of Planning & Development at the ZF Mgcawu District Municipality officially opened the program by welcoming all stakeholders and business owners and thanking each one for their attendance. De Waal said women are the leaders who ensure things happen in households and communities. He called on the women to grab the opportunity that will be provided to develop and grow their businesses.
Ms. Mamsy Maake from the Presidency provided the background, history, and rationale behind the project as well as the expected impact on women-owned businesses (WOB). Maake said they aim to increase the support given to women-owned enterprises so that they can thrive economically through mentorship and coaching programs. Maake said, “You empower a woman, you empower her family, neighbours, and the entire community.” Information about applications for funding, company registration, and compliance as well as how to do business with the government was distributed to attendees. In attendance were SARS, SEDA, ZF Mgcawu, & the Office of the Premier.
