ZFM OBTAINS 7th CLEAN AUDIT FOR 2019/2020
During a Council meeting held on the 29th of March 2021, the Office of the Auditor-General confirmed that the ZF Mgcawu District Municipality obtained its 7th clean audit for the 2019/2020 financial year.
The Auditor-General after examination of the municipality’s financial statements concluded that the financial statements reflect the true financial position of the municipality and that the financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the acceptable accounting principles and relevant legislation.The Executive Mayor of the ZFM District Municipality, Mr Paulus Mgcera could not hold back his pride, “It is an immensely proud moment for me that ZF Mgcawu District Municipality has obtained a clean audit for the 7th time for the 2019/2020 financial year. I would like to congratulate the senior management and the entire workforce on this clean audit”, he said.
The Council and the Administration of the Municipality worked hand in hand to obtain this achievement and this was done through the implementation of previous years audit findings and the Audit Recovery Plan and also close cooperation with the Office of the Auditor-General to ensure that certain goals and objectives are met. All the Councillors expressed their deep gratitude for this achievement but more importantly thanked the personnel for their dedication, hard work and professional behaviour during the period of the audit which resulted in the Clean Audit.
Mr Mgcera also mentioned that respect for the law in the management of the District Municipality, the oversight role of the Council to ensure that the budget and performance goals are properly achieved and that there is consequence management for non-performance. “We ensured that the basic principles of accountability, strong internal control measures and good governance are in place, and that resulted in this clean audit,” he said. At the same Council meeting, the ZF Mgcawu District Municipality swore in Ms Katrina Esau as a Councillor of the District Municipality as prescribed in item 11 of Schedule 2 of the Municipal Structures Act, 1998 thus filling the vacancy of a Councillor who ceased to hold office.
